How it all began – An idea from the farm
In 1994, German farmer Hubert Loick invented Playmais, a crafting toy made from corn grits. His favorite snack was peanut crisps, and that's exactly what gave him the idea.
We started in 2000, and in 2025 we marked our anniversary with a new design. Our Managing Director Britta Loick and her team are delighted that our corn-based crafting kits, made in Germany, have found their way into the hearts of children, parents, teachers, and educators. Not only in Europe, but also in the USA and Asia, children play with Playmais.

Family Business with Heart and Responsibility
Parents face many questions today:
What activities encourage creativity? Which products are safe? And which ones align with our family's values?
Playmais was developed to give children space for creative expression. We use a material made primarily from corn grits, water, and food coloring, and manufacture our products in Germany.
Our CEO, Britta Loick, is an entrepreneur, a trained teacher, and the parent of three grown children. Through personal experience, Britta Loick understands how important creative activities can be for children and how challenging it can sometimes be to find suitable alternatives to digital media.
That is why educational experience and insights from experts contribute to the ongoing development of Playmais.
A Toy Made from Corn
For more than 25 years, we have used corn as the basis for play and creative products, which we develop and test together with experts in psychology and education.
Corn is a renewable raw material. We use corn grits in the production of our products and manufacture them in Germany using electricity generated from our own biogas and photovoltaic facilities.
Children need room to try things out — with their hands, away from a screen. That's exactly what we make Playmais for.
Learning Naturally Through Creative Play
Playmais is a creative adventure for children and a welcome break for parents.
Our Playmais products are tested to EN 71, easy to use, and suitable almost anywhere: at home, on vacation, in cafés, or outdoors.
Children can simply get started. Playmais gives them room for discovery, at their own pace and away from a screen. Because even a few pieces produce a visible result, success comes quickly.
What We Work For
For us, creative making comes first. That includes how we work: we source corn grits mainly from Germany and the EU, we manufacture in Germany, and we give parents clear information about what is in our products.
